Follow me to: Tokyo

And thus began my ten- day trip to Tokyo, Japan. This was my first trip with friends- from planning the itinerary to booking air tickets- everything was done by us. Naturally, I was bubbling with excitement the second we boarded the plane headed towards Narita Airport. In the ten days, we trail blazed Tokyo with an average of 15,000 steps per day.

As self- proclaimed weebs, my friends and I visited five different shops selling anime merchandise, manga and Japanese books: Animate, Mandarake, Tsutaya, Maruzen and Shosen Book Tower. Shinjuku, Harajuku and Shibuya were shopping heavens- the saying ‘Shop till you drop’ cannot be more true. Besides that, Japan is known for its glorious sweets and desserts, and of course I had some form of cake/ice-cream/pastry every single day. (The kakigori I tried was a heavenly respite from the 30 degrees sweltering heat!)

What is Japan without its centuries of rich culture and history? On one of the days, all of us were decked in beautiful kimonos with fancy hairstyles as we walked along the crowded streets of Asakusa. The majesty of the shrines and temples amazed me when we stepped into Sensoji temple, Meiji Jingu shrine and the Tokyo Imperial Palace. (However, we did not manage to go into the Imperial Palace as coincidentally, President Trump was there and hence the area was off- limits.) To further deepen our knowledge and understanding of Japan, we visited the Tokyo National Museum located in Ueno Park.

Those ten days were unforgettable. Despite some hiccups along the way, the trip was an experience of a lifetime filled with fun, joy and laughter. 😀
